Rumors about an Addams family spin-off which will be based on the youngest girl in the fictional family – Wednesday Addams, have been circulating since last October. Back then, no streamer or network had been attached to the project, but now, Netflix has bought the rights to the project, titled Wednesday, and has ordered an eight-episode season.
The live-action coming-of-age story will follow the death obsessed daughter of the Addams family as she attends Nevermore Academy. The synopsis for the upcoming series is as follows:
“Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore”
This will be interesting to watch, that’s for sure. Wednesday Addams is arguably the most popular character on the Addams Family TV show, and a spin-off with only her interacting with the normal world sounds both daunting and hilarious. Her penchant for death, and her dead-pan delivery has given us many hilarious and horrific moments in the past few years.
The king of gothic fantasy and supernatural horror of the 80s and 90s – Tim Burton himself will be directing Netflix’s Wednesday. This will mark Burton’s first directorial debut for both television and online streaming. The show was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar, who will also serve as its show runners. No other details regarding the series have been made public yet, such as cast announcements and/or release date.
