Netflix has acquired the rights of five time Academy Award winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s next film ‘BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’. The film will release globally in theatres later this year before premiering on Netflix.
‘BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’, a nostalgic comedy set against an epic personal journey, is written by Iñárritu and Oscar winning screenwriter Nicolás Giacobone (‘Bridman’). As per Netflix, the film chronicles the story of a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker, who returns home and works through an existential crisis as he grapples with his identity, familial relationships, the folly of his memories as well as the past of his country. He seeks answers in his past to reconcile who he is in the present.
Academy Award-nominee Darius Khondji (‘Amour’, ‘Se7en’) has handled the cinematography for ‘BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’ that has been shot in 65 mm. The film is currently in post production and is expected to be completed by fall.
Daniel Giménez Cacho (‘Cronos’, ‘We Are What We Are’) and Griselda Siciliani (‘The People Upstairs’) star in ‘BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’. Other noted crew members include Oscar-winning Mexican designer Eugenio Caballero (‘ROMA’, ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’) who has done production design for the film and costume design by Anna Terrazas (‘The Deuce’, ‘ROMA’).
Iñárritu is known for his award winning works like ‘Biutiful’ (2010), ‘Babel’ (2006), ‘21 Grams’ (2003) and ‘Amores Perros’ (2001). He won the Best Picture, Directing and Writing Academy Awards for 2014’s ‘Birdman’ or ‘the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance’ and this was followed by Directing Oscar for Academy Award-winner Leonardo DiCaprio starrer ‘The Revenant’. In 2018, Iñárritu won a Special Achievement Academy Award for his virtual reality installation ‘Carne y Arena’.
