We are in the month of December right now, the year went by just by sitting inside at our homes, the world fighting a deadly virus, Australian bush fire, Murder Hornets and all kinds of disasters that one can imagine probably occurred in this year. The year 2020 was all kinds of painful, with people losing their lives, to people losing their jobs, the world entering a standstill mode and governments failing one after the other and kneeling down before a tiny but utterly deadly virus. Other than this, this year also saw the demise of various famous celebrities and renowned faces from amongst us due to various circumstances. Basically one can say that if someone has to give an example of what a bad year is, one can easily write 2020 as the example.
We sat in our homes for approximately 8 months and we would have lost our sanity if it wasn’t for all the streaming platforms out there. We had nothing to do for a few months, only thing that could be done was binging on the shows from the streaming platforms and when the world started realising that this isn’t going anywhere blockbusters started releasing online on these platforms. Thanks to that we were entertained even more. Thanks to this year, these streaming platforms welcomed a lot many subscribers and it increased their business tremendously.
Now keeping all this aside, two of the biggest streaming giants are bringing two comedy events to our screens as yearending specials. But, mind you these are no random specials. These are completely dedicated to the year 2020 and what this has been thought out. Amazon Prime Video just released their comedy special, “Yearly Departed” that has a plethora of women comedians in a funeral-like ambience where they say their “eulogies” for this year and what this year has taken away. With artists like Phoebe Robinson, Rachel Brosnahan, Tiffany Haddish, Patti Harrison, Natasha Legerro, Sarah Silverman, Natasha Rothwell and Ziwe, this special will be one hell of an affair.
On the other Netflix has its own yearending special, though the release date hasn’t been announced but this is something one has to look out for. It is a mockumentary by the creators of Black Mirror that has celebrities lining up and saying their few words laden with jokes and sarcasms for what this year has been. Called “Death to 2020”, the comedy special star Hugh Jackman, Lisa Kudrow, Samuel L. Jackson, Cristin Milioti, Kumail Nanjiani, Tracey Ullman, Joe Keery, Leslie Jones, Diana Morgan and Samson Kayo
No matter how fierce the competition is between these two sites, one has to watch both these shows just for the sake of ending this year on a comedic note.
