A lot depends on it this time. Snyder’s director’s cut will decide if this is a masterstroke or a marketing gimmick. We will know if the Snyder Cut will save the franchise or kick it to Apokolips. With the release date for the director’s cut announced, it not only sparks excitement among the fans but also highlights the pressure on Snyder to deliver this time.
Regarding the previous cuts of the films, “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire” was practically unwatchable, with ratings falling drastically. A 5.6 on IMDb and 21% on Rotten Tomatoes are quite low for the hype that was created.
Then came “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver,” and if you think ratings couldn’t go lower, think again. The second part’s ratings were as low as 5.2 on IMDb and 15% on Rotten Tomatoes.
So, expectations have crept up for the director’s cut.
Snyder does have some experience in turning a mediocre product into a good one with a director’s cut, as evidenced by “Justice League.” But this time, he was behind both “Rebel Moon” projects. Unless Netflix was pulling the strings, Snyder has a lot of work to do to turn public opinion around.
Though the visuals have been astounding, there were two major problems. Firstly, below-par writing and Snyder’s infatuation with slow motion. With the director’s cut, even though Snyder promises different dialogues for both cuts, will it drastically change the scenario?
Secondly, Snyder will likely use more of that slow-motion technique, especially since the length of the cut is an hour longer. But if he changes his mind, fans might appreciate it.
Regarding the release date, both cuts will be released on the same day, August 2nd, on Netflix.
Also, both cuts have different titles now, probably to look different and tackle the heat. The new titles are as follows:
Chapter 1: Chalice of Blood
Chapter 2: Curse of Forgiveness
We shall see if these changes of titles cause a change of fate or if it will be just the same for the franchise. Besides these, Snyder mentioned that he wanted a six-film saga for the franchise, which might remain on paper for now. If the cuts are successful, he might have the authority to pitch the other films to Netflix.
