Oscar nominated actress Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air, The Accountant) is all set for her feature film directorial debut movie ‘Woman of the Hour’. It’s a period crime drama which is based on the story of a real-life serial killer. The film was recently showcased at the ongoing 2023 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival and the project has been bagged by streaming company Netflix in a major acquisition deal at this year’s TIFF. As per reports, the deal price for Anna Kendrick’s directorial venture is a whopping $11 million.
The basic plot of ‘Woman of the Hour’ revolves around a woman who wins a date on The Dating Game show with a man who eventually turns out to be a serial killer. And the name of the real-life serial killer was Rodney Alcala, who made an appearance on the television show ‘The Dating Game’ in the year 1978 during a time when he had already executed a series of murders.
In the film, Anna Kendrick plays the role of Cheryl Bradshaw, the contestant who had won a date with the good looking and charming serial killer Rodney Alcala (played by Daniel Zovatto). The notorious criminal was later sentenced to death for the murder of five women which were committed in the late 1970s period. However, the actual number of Rodney Acala’s victims are estimated to be more than a hundred. His modus operandi for murdering women was to pose as a model photographer and then lure them into a trap.
Considering the shocking and intriguing premise of Anna Kendrick’s movie ‘Woman of the Hour’ and the fact that it is based on a real-life serial killer, all eyes will now be on when Netflix will release the film on its OTT platform. The sooner the better.
