Netflix is back to its canceling ways. After several high profile cancels in the beginning of the year, streaming giant has now given the boot to yet another seemingly popular show. And it is none other than young adult drama, ‘Lockwood And Co.’. Netflix has canceled the supernatural detective thriller after only one season.
Lockwood And Co. had premiered on Netflix in January 2023, and received favourable reviews from critics and audiences. Fans had been demanding a renewal for the show since several months, but Netflix dashed their hopes this morning when it became known that the show stands canceled at the streamer.
Despite receiving appreciation from audiences and critics, Lockwood And Co. failed to garner the kind of viewing numbers that merit a renewal for shoes at Netflix. The popular ‘1899’ was canceled at Netflix for the exact same reason.
Netflix cancels only those shows that have a poor completion rate. The completion rate of a show measures how many viewers actually watched a series right till the end, and how many left watching the show in between. This completion rate metric gives Netflix a better insight into the viewership data of a show, rather than the more widely known ‘numbers of hours watched’, or the ratings a show has received.
Lockwood And Co. failed to meet the aforementioned criteria, thus leading Netflix to cancel the series. The series is adapted Jonathan Stroud’s young adult novels of the same name. It is created by Joe Cornish’s Complete Fiction.
