Democracy is fun, but mobs wreak havoc. There have been enough instances of people filing offenses on something and rallying up others to join the cause to “cancel” the entity. Anyone can be a victim of a cancellation mob, from a movie star to any project, or as we see this time around Netflix.
It was 2019 when Netflix announced that it would take up the challenge to create a series set in the world of League of Legends: Arcane. Concentrated on the characters VI and Jinx, the series was much well received. Following which a second season was announced, a poster of which was recently revealed. Now there are comments sprouting up regarding the boycott of the series and subsequently Netflix itself. It all boils down to the fact that the company behind League of Legends, “Riot Games,” operates openly in the Russian market.
The people who align themselves with the Ukrainian cause have had grudges against the American companies that have distributions across Russia. Now joining the fray are the people who have served the country only for them to feel betrayed as an American company is pooling in the market on the other side of the Atlantic. The anger on Riot Games is now shifting over to Netflix, which suspended its services in Russia from March 2022.
Is it truly hypocritical for Netflix to apparently keep a foot inside the Russian consumership through Riot Games? Or is it just an overreaction at the expense of Netflix? For now, the final season of Arcane is set to release in November of 2024.
We have a problem @netflix.

Riot Games still conducts business in Russia.
I am in UA military and your sub since Jan 2021.
I don't think it's reasonable for me to pay you if you promote and launch mutual projects.
Don't feel like funding drones and rockets aimed at me today. https://t.co/97sKK2j9a3 pic.twitter.com/5MjvDhPhDD
