Netflix has been bringing us many brilliant European TV shows such as ‘Money Heist’, ‘Dark’, ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘The Crown’ among many others. The coronavirus pandemic has only accelerated the OTT streaming giant’s plans of expansion in that area for content with new shows like ‘Ragnarok’, ‘Lupin’, the season 4 of ‘Borgen’ and many more. And now, we are getting a new Icelandic web series called ‘Katla’ and a teaser promoting said Scandinavian TV show, was dropped a few hours ago on Netflix’s official YouTube channel. Check it out at the end of this article.
The one-minute teaser barely gives anything away about the upcoming show. The entire trailer gives off an ominous feeling and we can’t help but feel a small chill down our spines as we watch the short video. The teaser talks about Katla, which is an infamously large volcano that is very active, with its most active periods being during 930 AD to 1918 AD. In the web series, we start off one year after a fictional catastrophic eruption of Katla. The people who live around the area have slowly started to get their lives back to normal after the natural disaster. But as new mysteries emerge from the ice, the whole community’s view of the world starts to change.
Unlike most TV series around the world, this European web series is based on a natural disaster. We could also be looking at a supernatural series since the poster for this upcoming thriller series shows a woman with fire around her. The same woman is also heavily featured in the teaser, who is depicted as a scientist of some sorts. The teaser has done a good job in keeping the plot as vague as possible while maintaining the interest of the viewer. We can’t wait for the trailer for the series to finally drop – better yet, the series itself.
Scandinavian TV series ‘Katla’ will premiere on Netflix on June 17th 2021.
