Streaming giant Netflix has just dropped a new trailer for its upcoming film ‘Spaceman’. The film is helmed by Johan Renck, who’s earlier directed the HBO blockbuster, ‘Chernobyl’. Sci-fi drama film ‘Spaceman’ is adapted from the 2017 novel, ‘Spaceman of Bohemia’, written by Czech author Jaroslav Kalfař.
‘Spaceman’ will have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in mid-February, after which it will have a limited release in select theaters on 23rd February. ‘Spaceman’ will premiere on Netflix worldwide on 1st March.
The trailer for ‘Spaceman’ reveals a poignant story of an astronaut, Jakub, who is up in space on a six-month long solo mission. Things are not quite right in his marriage, which is on the verge of falling apart. Adam Sandler plays the troubled astronaut, while Carey Mulligan plays his frustrated wife. The trailer depicts Jakub’s loneliness and heartbreak, as he slowly loses hope of reconciling things with his wife.
As his poignant dejection gives way to melancholic musings aloud, he realises he’s not alone on the spaceship, but is accompanied by a stowaway – a spider-like alien. The rest of the trailer gets even more moving and affecting as the alien leads him on the path of facing his sadness and lends him much-needed emotional support. Paul Dano voices the alien in Spaceman.
The official synopsis of ‘Spaceman’ from Netflix reads – “Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.”
