Netflix has dropped the official trailer of Supa Team 4, the streaming platform’s first African Animation series.
Malenga Mulendema created the eight-episode animation series in collaboration with Cake, a London-based specialist in kids’ content, and Triggerfish, a prominent South African animation studio. France’s Superprod has handled the show’s animation. African voice actors, such as Pamela Nomvete, John Kani, Namisa Mdlalose, Zowa Ngwira, Sparky Xulu, and Nancy Sekhokoane, have lent their voices to the upcoming show.
Supa Team 4 revolves around a group of four teenagers who get recruited by a retired spy as superheroes. They all reside in the futuristic city of Lusaka. We see them battling different threats, like an older woman who generates electricity through her suit, a man with metal legs, a guy who looks like a crocodile, a swarm of locust-like bugs, and more.
Mulendema has also co-executively produced the show, along with Mike Buckland, Anthony Silverston, Edward Galton, Amy Keating Rogers, and Tom van Waveren.
Sampa the Great, a prominent Zambian singer, songwriter, and rapper, has created the show’s theme song.
Supa Team 4 will release on Netflix on July 20. Stay tuned for more updates.
