Netflix Drops Teaser For Guillermo Del Toro’s First Ever Animation

Netflix has a lot of highly anticipated projects in the works, many of which are expected to drop on the streaming platform in 2022. One among them, is the highly anticipated stop-motion animated fantasy musical, ‘Pinocchio’, based on the Gris Grimly’s 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian classic novel, ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’ by Carlo Collodi. The film will be partly written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro – making ‘Pinocchio’, his first-ever animated film. The teaser for this upcoming animated film dropped on Netflix’s official YouTube channel last night, so check it out at the end of this article.

The teaser, if one can really call it that, features only one character, a blue cricket. The cricket introduces itself to us as Sebastian J. Cricket, and he primarily talks to us, the viewers. He tells us that while we may think that we know the story of Pinocchio, we actually have no idea about how the story goes. He does so since he lived in the heart of the wooden boy. The short teaser ends, followed by the introduction fo the tile which then changes into the Netflix logo. All in all, done in under a minute.

The teaser confirms what we have known – this will not be the remake of the classic story by Carlo Collodi, instead it will be based on the darker, grittier Gris Grimly’s version, as mentioned earlier. We expect this story to be a shock to many fans of the original, however, it will also likely be more realistic. The stop-motion animation looks brilliant as well, and since this is Del Toro’s first collaboration with the streaming platform, we can’t wait for the film to drop on the OTT platform.

Guillermo Del Toro‘s ‘Pinocchio’ will premiere on Netflix in December.
