Netflix has added a ‘graphic violence involving kids’ warning at the beginning of the much-awaited Season 4 of its blockbuster hit show, ‘Stranger Things’. The streaming behemoth added the warning in the wake of the tragic Texas school shootings that happened on Wednesday. Apparently, the opening scenes of Stranger Things Episode 1 contain disturbing scenes of graphic violence against children, along with harrowing images of dead bodies of children.
Netflix did not want to take a chance with triggering viewers with the graphic images, coming so soon after the deadly shootings at the Texas school that killed nineteen children aged between 10 – 11, and 2 adults. The graphic violence warning appears on the screen at the start of Stranger Things Season 4, just before the recap, but only for Netflix users in the US.
The warning reads: “We filmed this season of Stranger Things a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing. We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one.”
For the rest of the world, a cryptic warning has been added to the description of Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 1, which says, “Warning: Contains graphic violence involving children”.
In further steps to avoid distressing viewers, Netflix has also removed the video of the first eight minutes of Stranger Things Season 4, which was available to watch on the streamer’s YouTube channel.
