Two of Hollywood’s most accomplished stars, Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington are all set to team up again for the Netflix film ‘Leave The World Behind’ to be directed by Sam Esmail which will be a feature adaptation of Rumaan Alam’s upcoming novel. They have previously worked together in ‘The Pelican Brief’ in 1993.
The novel will be published later this year and according to sources the book portion and the figure deal budget outline were a part of the 7 figure deal made by Netflix. This deal’s value is set to challenge one made by Apple for Will Smith’s ‘Emancipation’ which was in a whopping $120 million range.
The film follows Amanda and Clay who are vacationing with their children when the arrival of a middle aged couple, who have fled a blackout in the city, interrupts their plans. In the rural countryside with no internet or radio they don’t know what to believe. As panic and alarm set in, the issues of race, class and parenthood are explored around them in those moments of crisis.
The film will be produced by Roberts under Red Om Films, Washington, Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton under Esmail Corp. Alam will be executive producer along with Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill of Red Om Films.
Netflix has won the deal after a fierce bidding war against studios like MGM and Apple for the rights to this project. And with the phenomenal actors and compelling storyline in trend with the current times of the world, ‘Leave The World Behind’ could be one of Netflix’s most successful films yet!
