Attention all the Kaiju-Mecha-Anime lovers out there! The world-beloved Mecha, Gundam is coming back and this time, in its live action Avatar. Netflix has just announced that they are moving forward with the idea of a first ever live action Gundam film and fans can’t keep calm!
News of Gundam going live action was around for quite a while now. But finally with this official announcement, the Anime fans around the world are overjoyed. As per the reports, Legendary Entertainment had teamed up with Sunrise, the owner of Gundam media franchise, to create the adaptation after their work with Pacific Rim met with praise. It looks like the success of the Mecha-Kaiju fusion franchise has triggered the Sunrise team to finally take Gundam to Hollywood.
The film will reportedly be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who has previously directed another Kaiju movie ‘Kong: Skull Island’. Brian K. Vaughan will have the responsibility of writing the script and acting as executive producer. The rest of the casts and crew members are yet to be revealed.
For the folks who are not familiar with it, Gundam is a Japanese military Sci-Fi media franchise created in 1979 by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise. The franchise features giant robots, or mecha, with the name ‘Gundam’. Gundam gained worldwide popularity since the release of ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’, a TV series. It maintained a cult following ever since.
Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. But for China, Legendary Pictures will release the movie only in theaters, as per the sources.
