It was with much fanfare that Netflix India had announced ‘Thar’, in February 2022. The streaming giant had created a splash on social media with ‘Thar’, headlined by the super-exciting cast of father-son duo, Anil Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. However, after the social media splash of the film announcement, Netflix has suddenly gone all shy on us. It has announced the premiere date of ‘Thar’, but in a strange way. More about that later; but first, here’s the news you’re waiting for – ‘Thar’ will premiere on Netflix on May 6, 2022!
Netflix chose a different way to announce the release date of Thar – with a nondescript post on YouTube! Of all the social media avenues available to the deep-pocketed streamer, posting a barely-interesting update on YouTube is hardly a thrilling option to announce a Netflix original film as hotly anticipated as ‘Thar’.
So there we are! No Twitter post, no Instagram update – just a poorly envisioned YouTube post on Netflix India’s YouTube channel has just announced that Thar will premiere on Netflix on 6th May!
‘Thar’ is described as a revenge thriller film, inspired by Western Noir genres. The film is set in the eighties and centres on a small-town man, Siddharth, who shifts to Pushkar for a job, and to extract revenge for a painful past. Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor plays the role of Sidharth in ‘Thar’.
The revenge noir thriller also features Anil Kapoor, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Jitendra Joshi and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. Thar marks the directorial debut of Raj Singh Chaudhary who has also written the film. The film is produced by Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC Network).
