We at Binged had earlier made our readers aware of Netflix’s strategic diversification beyond its staple programming of movies and TV shows portfolio to the yet underexplored gaming territory on OTT. In line with the strategy, the streaming giant had hired former Electronic Arts and Facebook executive Mike Verdu as Vice President of game development and subsequent acquisition of gaming developer Night School Studios.
In the initial phase of its gaming segment launch, Netflix had released five games for Android and Apple phone users across the globe. These five games were “Stranger Things: 1984” (Role-Playing), “Stranger Things 3: The Game” (Role-Playing), “Card Blast” (Casino), “Teeter Up” (Arcade), and “Shooting Hoops” (Sports).
A few weeks later, some more games namely ‘Asphalt Xtreme’ (Racing), ‘Bowling Ballers’ (Sports), ‘Wonderputt Forever’ (Sports), ‘Dominoes Café’ (Tabletop), and ‘Knittens’ (Puzzle) were added to the Netflix OTT platform.
And now, Netflix has recently added two more new games to its gaming menu which may also be played (free for Netflix subscribers) through the Netflix India mobile app. These games are ‘Arcanium: Rise of Akhan’ and ‘Krispee Street’. So, currently, the number of game titles on the Netflix OTT app has increased to 12 compared to just 5 at the time of its gaming segment launch.
‘Arcanium: Rise of Akhan’ is a strategy game in which a group of three heroes team up to defeat Akhan the Calamity in order to save the world of Arzu from getting destroyed. While ‘Krispee Street’ is based on an immensely popular webcomic and in the game, the player has to find several objects and characters hidden in various stages of the virtual world. The aforementioned Netflix game titles available on the Netflix OTT app can purportedly be played by Netflix subscribers through Android and iOS apps.
