Analysis
You must be wondering where is our section on the original series. Well, there isn’t because Netflix India didn’t have any series in store for us.
Yes, just like in May 2022, this year too Netflix India couldn’t bring any original series. It may be a problem in slate or just the fact that May is ominous for Netflix.
Anyways, the first week of May was so scant on new titles that super old films barged into the list of most watched films. Yes, movies like OK Jaanu, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya were seen on the list. There was no occasion for these romantic films apart from the fact that Netflix had nothing new to offer.
So users stuck to the old romantic and safe movies that can be watched anytime.
Regardless, the only original movie last month was Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery. It is a political satire which is inspired by real events in Uttar Pradesh. The movie, although funny at times, lacked the sharpness a satirical film needs.
And it was quite obvious in the views it earned too.
When it comes to licensed movies then Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway were the two stand out films. They performed really well and earned a lot of views on the platform.
The others failed to leave any impact and went lost after mediocre views.
Overall, May 2023 was a huge disappointment for Netflix. Had it not been for the two licensed Hindi films then Netflix India offered absolutely no Indian title that can be remembered.
This month doesn’t deserve more than 3.5 out of 10 for Netflix.
