Netflix has had a great run these past three months of 2025 in terms of original content, delivering at least one hit per month. But that streak is now broken in April and despite two diverse originals landing on the platform, neither could manage to do any good whatsoever.
In the beginning of the month we had Netflix India drop its first Tamil original ‘Test’ which despite a great ensemble cast could not pass the critics and public expectations. The film had a weak storyline and characterisation and also lacked emotional quotient.
And just recently worse has supposedly happened with ‘Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins’, the other Netflix original launched this April. The early reviews and reactions have found the film to be bad citing poor direction, predictable plot, and bad CGI and VFX among other things.
Netflix India probably had high hopes for April given the two star studded original projects it had in pipeline for this month but it surely would have learnt the lesson that when it comes to OTT people are going to be heavily inclined towards a good story over anything else.
If not for the array of hit licensed films like ‘Chhaava’, and ‘Court: State Vs A Nobody’ making way to Netflix, this month would have been a colossal failure. Hopefully, we get to see better stuff from Netflix India going forward.
