Folks on Twitter must know that Netflix India South is the South-specific Twitter handle launched by Netflix India. It’s been some time now that we at Binged have noticed a very weird thing going on at Netflix India South. The handle has consistently displayed a very distinct bias towards Tamil content.
Why do we say so? With very good reason! Ever since inception, Netflix India South has been holding some very interesting “Twitter Spaces” on their esteemed Twitter handle. But—check this—it holds those Twitter Spaces only for Tamil content!
May we ask why? What’s the reasoning or strategy behind holding Twitter Spaces only for Tamil audiences? Are Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam pariahs for you? To clarify, pariah means outcasts.
It seems as if Netflix India South considers only Tamil content as South content. Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada seem to hold no meaning or importance whatsoever for the so-called “South-focused” Netflix India handle.
May we remind you, dear Netflix India South — in case you’ve forgotten — Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam are “equally” a part of the rich content culture of the Southern states of this country as Tamil is. If you indeed have forgotten this, we’ll send you a daily reminder if that’ll help you remember this “very important fact”. Yes, we will!
Let us remind you of a few other very important facts – which seem to have escaped your notice or you seem to have deliberately ignored. The Telugu entertainment industry is the richest and biggest in the South. Malayalam content is the highest in creativity and pushing boundaries, to produce exciting, innovative content. And Kannada cinema has just given the monster hit, KGF Chapter 2, making it a growing superpower in the south content space.
But you, in all your ignorance, want to focus only on Tamil content. Even at this moment, the Netflix India South Twitter handle has this interesting Space going on.
Ever since launch, the handle has not held a single space for Telugu or Kannada content, and just one or two for Malayalam. Why the bias, folks? Either shape up, or change your handle name to Netflix India Tamil!
We reiterate that we aren’t against Tamil content, or its audiences. We are against the bias – the blatant, overwhelmingly obvious bias of Netflix India South towards one particular language.
Not done, guys!
