Netflix India’s Top 10 Films & Series to Watch in the 31st January Week

For Netflix India’s top ten films list, this week’s top-ranked title is once again held by Nani’s psychological romantic movie ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ which is based on the theme of reincarnation. And in the second place is a surprise entry – Robert Downey Jr. starrer 2020 film ‘Dolittle’. While Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor starrer romantic drama ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ has secured the third spot on the Netflix list.

On the Netflix top ten TV shows front, this week’s top spot has been bagged by the South Korean zombie-horror show ‘All of Us Are Dead’. On the second place is Kapil Sharma’s comedy special ‘Kapil Sharma: I’m Not Done Yet’. Moreover, the third spot has been held by the well-executed psychological thriller show ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein’.

TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK

10. Meenakshi Sundareshwar

A romantic comedy that features Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani in the lead roles. The film is based on the struggles of long-distance relationships faced by a newly married couple.

9. Red Notice

Helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, this action-comedy thriller film features WWE star turned Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson as an FBI profiler who teams up with a renowned art thief (Ryan Reynolds) to catch a highly elusive criminal (Gal Gadot).

8. Munich: The Edge of War

Based on the bestselling novel ‘Munich’ by Robert Harris, the historical drama movie follows the story of a British civil servant Hugh Legat (played by George MacKay), and his friend from Oxford Paul von Hartmann (Jannis Niewöhner), who now works for the German government. They travel to the 1938 Munich conference and find themselves in a race to expose a Nazi secret as Hitler prepares to invade Czechoslovakia.

7. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo

The Allu Arjun starrer action-drama movie was recently in the news for the previously planned theatrical re-release of the Hindi-dubbed version of the film after the phenomenal success of ‘Pushpa: The Rise’. ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ follows the story of Bantu, whose life takes a sharp turn after he becomes aware that his real biological father is not the hard-hearted man, he is living with but a millionaire business tycoon.

6. Minnal Murali

Set during the 1990s period, it follows the superhero origin story of an ordinary but good-hearted man named Jaison (played by Tovino Thomas), a small-town tailor from the state of Kerala. One day, Jaison is struck by a bolt of lightning (in a rare astronomical event) which bestows him special powers like super speed, extraordinary strength, and extreme agility. How Jaison embraces his powers to become a local superhero and assumes the mantle of Minnal Murali to fight his evil counterpart, forms the rest of the film’s plot.

5. Sooryavanshi

Sooryavanshi is the fourth movie that belongs to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe film series comprising Singham and Simmba films. Sooryavanshi revolves around the titular cop DCP Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), who heads the Anti-Terrorism Squad and his attempt to avert a terrorist attack in Mumbai. The film also features Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Jackie Shroff in important roles.

4. The Royal Treatment

The film features actress-singer Laura Marano as an upright Manhattan-based hairdresser Izzy (Isabelle), who gets a golden chance to work at the royal wedding of the duty-bound Prince Thomas (played by Mena Massoud). Things get more interesting when the two get attracted to each other.

3. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ features Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles of a fitness coach and a Zumba instructor respectively. The plot starts off as a ‘regular boy meets a girl and falls in love’ story, however, things take a different turn after a surprising revelation is made that could affect their relationship. The film has been helmed by Abhishek Kapoor, whose directorial prowess we have already seen in films like ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Rock On’.

2. Dolittle

The fantasy adventure film features ‘Iron Man’ actor Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role of Dr. Dolittle, an eccentric veterinarian who must come out of his reclusive life and undertake an adventurous journey to a mysterious island in order to find a cure for a dying young queen.

1. Shyam Singha Roy

It’s a psychological period romantic drama movie that revolves around the intriguing concept of reincarnation. The film features Nani in a double role. One story is set in modern-day Hyderabad where he plays an aspiring film director, and the other story is set in 1970s Bengal where he is portrayed as a revolutionary writer called Shyam Singha Roy. How these two timelines relate to each other forms the film’s crux.

10. Our Beloved Summer

It’s a coming-of-age South Korean romantic comedy show that revolves around former lovers Choi Ung and Kook Yeon-soo, who had ended their relationship, apparently forever. However, by a twist of fate, when a documentary film they had shot ten years ago goes viral, the ex-couple are forced to come back together and face the camera again.

9. In From the Cold

It’s a science fiction thriller show that revolves around a single mother and a former Russian super-spy living in New Jersey who must now confront her mysterious past after the authorities come to know about her long-buried secret.

8. The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window

The dark-comedy thriller miniseries features Kristen Bell as a woman grieving from the death of her young daughter and begins to hallucinate after taking pills with wine. One day, she witnesses a brutal murder. Did it happen for real or is it just a figment of her imagination?

7. Ozark

The crime drama show features Jason Bateman as a Chicago-based financial advisor and also stars Laura Linney as Bateman’s wife. The family with kids relocates to the Ozarks in Missouri for money laundering activities. The fourth season of the Primetime Emmy award-winning show has been divided into two parts of seven episodes each and the first part started streaming from 21st January.

6. Money Heist

The show follows a hostage situation plotline masterminded by an enigmatic genius and his attempt to pull off a virtually impossible heist with the help of his skilled team. Volume-1 part-5 of the show began streaming on Netflix from 3rd September while the second volume came out on 3rd December.

5. Aranyak

The Netflix crime drama series starring Raveena Tandon, Saurav Khurana, and Ashutosh Rana revolves around the investigation of a missing foreign teenage tourist by two disparate cops which leads them to a mythical killer creature lurking in the forest.

4. Squid Game

The show follows the story of 456 people, who have somewhat failed in their lives, and they are invited to participate in a dangerous survival game called ‘Squid Game’. The winner of the game will take home a huge amount. Despite being quite brutal and repulsive, it’s being called by many a compelling watch. The show’s actor O Yeong-su had won the Golden Globes award for the best supporting actor category.

3. Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein

It’s a psychological thriller show that revolves around a small-town man (Tahir Raj Bhasin) with simple ambitions. But his life goes haywire when the daughter (Anchal Singh) of a powerful politician (Saurabh Shukla) falls in love with him and is hellbent on ‘acquiring’ at any cost. His desperate attempt to regain control over his own life and to reunite with his love interest (Shweta Tripathi) forms the show’s underlying story.

2. Kapil Sharma: I’m Not Done Yet

It’s a stand-up special show featuring India’s king of comedy Kapil Sharma. For the first time, the immensely popular master of laughter will narrate several unknown instances from his own life in, obviously, a humorous way using his trademark amusing style.

1. All of Us Are Dead

Based on the webtoon ‘Now at Our School’, it’s a South Korean show where high school students are forced to fight a zombie outbreak in a battle for survival, in order to avoid becoming the infected creatures themselves. Killing or getting killed are the only two options left for them.
