TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK
10. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
This 2011 Zoya Akhtar film just celebrated its 10-year anniversary this past week. That is why viewers are re-watching the well-loved film in droves, and have trended it on Netflix’s Top Ten Films. An epic road trip, 3 friends, loads of fun and laughter, coupled with underlying issues, make this an anytime watch film!
9. 365 Days
Well, well! Look who’s made it back into the Netflix Top Ten this week – the erotic drama 365 Days! 365 Days seems to have found a permanent place in Netflix India’s Top Ten list. Even if it loses its place in the Netflix Top Ten, it is soon back after a week or two, after letting other films enjoy the spotlight. It is an erotic drama where a powerful mafiaso abducts a strong-headed woman, and gives her an ultimatum of 365 days to fall in love with him.
8. Fifty Shades Of Grey
We Indians love erotica! After all, ours is the land that gave birth to the Kamasutra. Just like 365 Days, Fifty Shades Of Grey seems to have found a place on the Netflix Top Ten, and has stayed there ever since, save for a week or two of non-appearance. The film is based on the erotic novel of the same name, and discusses themes of extreme sexuality. In this film, a wealthy older man and a young woman start an intense affair but things start to heat up as they take things to an extreme end in their relationship.
7. Jagame Thandhiram
Jagame Thandhiram continues to find a place in the Netflix Top Ten films week after week. Wily Madurai gangster Suruli (Dhanush) is recruited by a London mobster to finish off a rival gangster. Suruli is up to the task, but is taken unawares with the moral dilemmas that follow. Dhanush is on a roll in this Karthik Subbaraj directorial.
6. TrollHunters: Rise Of The Titans
It is the finale film of the Trollhunters (Tales Of Arcadia) franchise, created by Guillermo del Toro. The events of the computer-animated film take place a year after the events of its predecessor, “Wizards”. The Guardians of Arcadia must reunite for the final time, to battle the nefarious Arcane Order, who have reawakened the primordial Titans.
5. The Last Letter From Your Lover
A British romantic drama film, it centres on a young female journalist’s quest to discover the source of series of love letters from the 1960s that she accidentally uncovers in the course of daily work. Soon, she becomes obsessed with discovering the lovers’ identities and finding out how their love story ends.
4. Chernobyl 1986
This Russian film uses the devastating Chernobyl nuclear reactor horror of 1986 to weave an action drama and disaster movie centred on a heroic firefighter who is thrust from retirement into the thick of things, as he races against time to avert a global catastrophe.
3. Kingdom: Ashin Of The North
A special one-off episode from the much-loved Kingdom series, before Kingdom Season 3 arrives on Netflix. Kingdom: Ashin Of The North explores the backstory of Ashin, the mysterious character Lee Chang’s group encountered on their journey north to discover the origins of the infected.
2. Haseen Dillruba
This Taapsee Pannu – Vikrant Massey starrer moves to the second spot on the Netflix India Top Ten after 4 weeks of its release. It’s an intriguing murder mystery with enough twists and turns to keep you in suspense till the last scene.
1. Blood Red Sky
This German horror thriller film has snared the top spot in the Netflix Top Ten this week. It is centred on a woman with a hidden power, which she must unleash to save her child from the merciless killers who have hijacked their flight. Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) plays one of the hijackers.
TOP 10 SERIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK
10. Lucifer
Being the Lord of Hell may not be as exciting as he thought it would be. So Lucifer decides to come down and open up a nightclub in Los Angeles as he forms a connection with a homicide detective. In Season 5 Part 2, Lucifer has to lock horns with his own father, that is God!
9. Money Heist
With the announcement of the Season 5 release date, the hype could not be greater for this thrilling series. The Professor hires a team of exceptionally talented criminals to undertake one of the riskiest heists ever. This team of ragtag criminals will have to dig deep to come out safe and sound. The robbers will have to fight obstacles both external and internal if they are to get what they came for.
8. Nevertheless
A Korean romantic drama about the romance between a man who is annoyed with relationships but likes to flirt and a woman who wants to date but does not believe in love. A new episode releases every week on Netflix, which is the reason for Nevertheless to retain its position on the Netflix Top Ten every week.
7. Friends
The sitcom has been ruling our hearts for decades now and is almost omnipresent in the list of Netflix India’s Top 10. Friends is the story of a close group of friends who come together almost every day and share their problems and happiness. The six friends stay true to their tagline – I’ll be there for you!
6. Ray
An anthology of four films adapted from Satyajit Ray’s vast collection of short stories, each directed by a skilled director and featuring a stellar cast.
5. Masters Of The Universe: Revelation
It is a reboot series and a sequel of sorts to the beloved eighties animated show, He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. The series includes all the loved characters that made the original such a legend. Masters Of The Universe: Revelation S1 focuses on the unresolved storylines of the original series, picking up the characters’ journeys where they left off.
4. The Good Doctor
All the seasons of the much-appreciated show are now streaming on Netflix India, which is the reason for it trending in the Top Ten Shows of the week. The medical drama features a young autistic doctor, blessed with exemplary skills in the medical field, which he uses to solve the complex cases of his patients.
3. Sex/Life
It is an erotic drama about a woman whose daring sexual past collides with her married-with-kids present when the bad-boy ex she can’t stop fantasizing about crashes back into her life.
2. Never Have I Ever S2
Mindy Kaling’s coming of age comedy is back with its sophomore season. The new season has Devi caught between the affections of both Ben and Paxton; and lots more happening at school and with her friends, while at home, her widowed mother Nandini tries to move on by going out with a new love interest. The new season of Never Have I Ever is wittier, funnier and sharper than the first.
1. Feels Like Ishq
An anthology of six short stories, all centred around the common theme of two strangers meeting, and falling in love at first sight. Six stellar directors helm the stories, supported by an inspired ensemble cast. This Netflix Original from India is a light-hearted, breezy watch, the perfect antidote to the stress of our times.
