For Netflix India’s top ten films list, the widely acclaimed superhero origin movie Minnal Murali’s previous week’s top spot has been replaced by Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor starrer romantic drama ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’. While ‘Minnal Murali’ now holds second place on the list. And the third place is held by Akshay Kumar starrer cop actioner ‘Sooryavanshi’ helmed by blockbuster filmmaker Rohit Shetty.
On the Netflix top-ten TV shows front, this week’s top spot is held by Raveena Tandon and Parambrata Chatterjee starrer show ‘Aranyak’ followed by Madhavan and Surveen Chawla’s contemporary comedy-drama ‘Decoupled’ and the cult South Korean survival drama ‘Squid Game’.

TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK
10. Late Night
In order to assuage the diversity issues and to avoid getting replaced, a legendary late-night talk show host Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson) hires a new female writer Molly (Mindy Kaling) who joins a team of all-male writers. How the two women deal with their culture and generation gap as they work together to make the show successful forms the film’s underlying premise.
9. Meenakshi Sundareshwar
A romantic comedy that features Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani in the lead roles. The film is based on the struggles of long-distance relationships faced by a newly married couple.
8. Red Notice
Helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, this action-comedy thriller film features WWE star turned Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson as an FBI profiler who teams up with a renowned art thief (Ryan Reynolds) to catch a highly elusive criminal (Gal Gadot).
7. Spider-Man: Far from Home
Directed by Jon Watts, the 2019 prequel to the upcoming superhero movie ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ takes place after the emotionally stirring events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) goes on a school summer field trip to Europe where he is unwillingly forced to encounter the Elementals with some ‘help’ from a mysterious person named Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal).
6. Mother/Android
Set amidst a near-future post-apocalyptic world, the plot revolves around a pregnant woman Georgia (Chloë Grace Moretz), who must undertake a dangerous journey with her boyfriend as they attempt to run away from their country fighting a war against artificial intelligence. But on their escape route, they must deal with No Man’s Land, a territory dominated by violent and killer androids.
5. Don’t Look Up
The movie follows two astronomers (played by Leonardo Di Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence) who make a shocking discovery about an approaching comet on its way to a devastating collision with Earth in just six months. Their attempt to warn the social media-obsessed world through a media tour ostensibly forms the rest of the film’s plot. The film features an ensemble cast that also includes Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, and Timothee Chalamet.
4. Mission: Impossible – Fallout
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film continues the daredevil adventures of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) as he and his Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team up with CIA special agent August Walker (Henry Cavill) for another impossible mission to retrieve stolen plutonium from a nefarious organization called the Apostles.
3. Sooryavanshi
Sooryavanshi is the fourth movie that belongs to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe film series comprising Singham and Simmba films. Sooryavanshi revolves around the titular cop DCP Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), who heads the Anti-Terrorism Squad and his attempt to avert a terrorist attack in Mumbai. The film also features Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Jackie Shroff in important roles.
2. Minnal Murali
Set during the 1990s period, it follows the superhero origin story of an ordinary but good-hearted man named Jaison (played by Tovino Thomas), a small-town tailor from the state of Kerala. One day, Jaison is struck by a bolt of lightning (in a rare astronomical event) which bestows him special powers like super speed, extraordinary strength, and extreme agility. How Jaison embraces his powers to become a local superhero and assumes the mantle of Minnal Murali to fight his evil counterpart, forms the rest of the film’s plot.
1. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui
‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ features Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles of a fitness coach and a Zumba instructor respectively. The plot starts off as a ‘regular boy meets a girl and falls in love’ story, however, things take a different turn after a surprising revelation is made that could affect their relationship. The film has been helmed by Abhishek Kapoor, whose directorial prowess we have already seen in films like ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Rock On’.

10. Stay Close
It’s a mystery miniseries written by Harlan Coben which mainly revolves around the disparate lives of a working mom with three children, a documentary photographer with an uninteresting job, and a cop still dealing with a seventeen-year-old, unresolved missing person case of Stewart Green. Things take an interesting turn when another person goes missing precisely seventeen years after the disappearance of Stewart Green and all these characters’ lives somehow get affected by the case.
9. Daredevil
The widely admired series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka the titular vigilante superhero Daredevil. After being blinded by a childhood accident, the incident heightened his other senses which he uses to fight crime in Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in present-day New York. While during the daytime, he fights injustice as a blind lawyer.
8. Cobra Kai
‘Cobra Kai’ is a martial arts comedy-drama that’s set more than three decades after the events of the cult film ‘The Karate Kid’. While the parent film featured Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso in the role of the underdog protagonist and his adversary was Johnny Lawrence was played by William Zabka. Whereas tables turned in the spin-off web series as the goings-on are narrated from Johnny Lawrence’s point of view in a universe where he becomes the underdog.
The third season of ‘Cobra Kai’ concluded with Johnny Lawrence teaming up for the first time with Daniel LaRusso to jointly train their students for the next All-Valley Karate tournament against their common enemy John Kreese (played by Martin Kove).
7. The Silent Sea
Based on the series director Choi Hang-Yong’s own short film ‘The Sea of Tranquility’ (2014), ‘The Silent Sea’ is a South Korean sci-fi show that revolves around a dangerous space exploration mission to the moon to investigate a now-abandoned research station on the moon.
6. Emily in Paris
In a pleasant surprise for Chicago-based marketing executive Emily, she gets her dream job in Paris and relocates. She is assigned to redesign a French marketing company’s social media strategy from an American perspective. As she deals with a culture clash in a new country, she simultaneously balances her workplace along with her personal life.
5. The Witcher
The Netflix series ‘The Witcher’ featured the charismatic Henry Cavill as ‘Geralt of Rivia’, who is a professional monster hunter with special powers. His destiny makes him cross paths with Princess Ciri and the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg as they navigate their way through a corrupt medieval fantasy world called The Continent. ‘The Witcher’ second season started streaming from 17th December.
4. Money Heist
The show follows a hostage situation plotline masterminded by an enigmatic genius and his attempt to pull off a virtually impossible heist with the help of his skilled team. Volume-1 part-5 of the show began streaming on Netflix from 3rd September while the second volume came out on 3rd December.
3. Squid Game
The show follows the story of 456 people, who have somewhat failed in their lives, and they are invited to participate in a dangerous survival game called ‘Squid Game’. The winner of the game will take home a huge amount. Despite being quite brutal and repulsive, it’s being called by many a compelling watch. Not for the weak of heart though. The show’s actor O Yeong-su has recently won the Golden Globes award for the best supporting actor category.
2. Decoupled
Directed by Hardik Mehta (Roohi) and created by eminent writer Manu Joseph (Serious Men), the comedy-drama show revolves around a contemporary married couple with a child – a writer (played by Madhavan) and a corporate start-up founder (Surveen Chawla) who have fallen out of love and intend to separate.
1. Aranyak
The Netflix crime drama series starring Raveena Tandon, Saurav Khurana, and Ashutosh Rana revolves around the investigation of a missing foreign teenage tourist by two disparate cops which leads them to a mythical killer creature lurking in the forest.
