Netflix India’s Top 10 Films & Series to Watch in the 16th January Week

For Netflix India’s top ten films list, the top-ranked title has been bagged by Shaad Ali’s comedy film ‘Mister Mummy’ followed by the comedy drama movie ‘Thai Massage’ starring Gajraj Rao and Divyendu Sharma and the wrestling backdrop-based sports drama ‘Gatta Kusthi’.

On the Netflix top ten TV shows front, this week’s top spot has been bagged by ‘Trial By Fire’, a web series based on the tragic 1997 Uphaar Cinema fire incident. While on the second and the third spots of the Netflix list are the massively popular horror comedy series ‘Wednesday’ and the comedy drama show ‘Ginny & Georgia’, respectively.

TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK

10. Qala

The music-based Netflix drama features Triptii Dimri, Swastika Mukherjee, and Babil Khan (in his Bollywood debut). The film’s story focuses on a gifted singer with a promising career and how she deals with the pressures and her complex relationship with her mother.

9. Doctor G

Set amidst the backdrop of a medical college campus in Bhopal, the social comedy film features Ayushmann Khurrana as Dr. Uday Gupta, the only male student who unwillingly ends up in the gynaecology department, despite his penchant for orthopaedics. Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap (Afsos), the movie also features Rakul Preet Singh, Shefali Shah, and Sheeba Chaddha.

8. Mumbai Mafia: Police Vs The Underworld

The true crime documentary film focuses on the turbulent times during the 1990s period in Mumbai and the violent battle between the rising force of encounter specialists and the dreaded underworld gang – the D-Company.

7. RRR (Hindi)

Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).

6. Double XL

Helmed by Satram Ramani, the movie revolves around the story of two plus-sized women Rajshree Trivedi from Meerut and Saira Khanna from New Delhi (played by Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha, respectively). The underlying premise is about how the two women deal with the beauty standards set by the society in an amusing and light-hearted way.

5. Mili

Directed by Mathukutty Xavier, the survival thriller movie follows a nursing graduate Mili (played by Janhvi Kapoor), who works part-time in a restaurant. One night, she gets accidentally locked inside the restaurant’s freezer room. How her body begins to break down in the freezing cold and her desperate attempts to survive against all odds forms the film’s basic plot.

4. Kantara (Hindi)

The man vs nature centric film has been written and directed by and features actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty. The film is set in the fictional village of Kantara and follows the story of a hot-headed henchman named Shiva (Rishab Shetty). When a forest officer Murali (Kishore) tries to stop the local superstitions in the village and save the forest from the residents, Shiva locks horns with Murali with support from his landlord (Achyuth Kumar).

3. Gatta Kusthi

The sports dramedy movie features Vishnu Vishal as a male chauvinist named Veera, who marries a wrestling champion Keerthi (Aishwarya Lekshmi). But Veera’s bride is exactly the opposite of what he expected her to be.

2. Thai Massage

The comedy drama film tells the story of a 70-year-old widower Atmaram Dubey (Gajraj Rao), who has been celibate for many years now. When he can’t get over the fact that he would be a celibate for the rest of his life, a young man (Divyendu Sharma) comes up with a plan.

1. Mister Mummy

Directed by Shaad Ali, the comedy movie revolves around a couple Amol and Guglu (played by Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh) with disparate viewpoints about children, whose lives take an interesting turn after both somehow become pregnant.

10. Emily in Paris

In a pleasant surprise for Chicago-based marketing executive Emily, she gets her dream job in Paris and relocates. She is assigned to redesign a French marketing company’s social media strategy from an American perspective. As she deals with a culture clash in a new country, she concurrently balances her workplace along with her personal life.

9. The Glory

The eight-part South Korean series is about a woman, who hatches an elaborate plan to exact revenge from her childhood bullies who destroyed her life.

8. Alice in Borderland

The Japanese sci-fi thriller series follows a jobless gamer, who is sent to another dimension – a parallel and desolate Tokyo where he and his allies must compete in a sadistic game of survival. He also meets a young woman and together they set out to unearth the mystery.

7. Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight

The animated series follows the adventures of a giant Panda Po (voiced by Jack Black), who teams up with a reputed English knight Wandering Blade in order to acquire four magical weapons, to stop a pair of infamous weasels and save the world from destruction.

6. Kaleidoscope

The non-linear heist drama series features ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Giancarlo Esposito in the role of a master thief, who must overcome betrayal and greed to execute a massive heist of a whopping $7 billion. The interesting thing about the eight-episode show is that it can be watched in any order.

5. Khakee: The Bihar Chapter

Neeraj Pandey’s crime action-drama series revolves around the violent face-off between an upright super-cop and a dreaded criminal amidst the backdrop of chaos, violent and rampant corruption. It features an ensemble cast that includes Karan Tacker, Avinash Tiwari, Abhimanyu Singh, Ravi Kishan, Ashutosh Rana, and Anup Soni, amongst others.

4. Vikings Valhalla

It’s a sequel to History channel’s historical drama series ‘Vikings’ and is set a hundred years after the show. Amidst escalating conflict between Vikings and English royals, the story follows the daredevil adventures of renowned Vikings Leif Erikson, Freydís Eiríksdóttir, and Harald Hardrada, and the Norman King William the Conqueror.

3. Ginny & Georgia

The ten-part comedy drama series revolves around a fifteen-year-old teenager named Ginny (Antonia Gentry), who is portrayed as more sensible and mature than her dynamic mother Georgia (Brianne Howey).

2. Wednesday

The horror comedy series focuses on The Addams Family character named Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega). The story is about how the titular protagonist, a gothic teenage girl, hones her psychic abilities and attempts to investigate a series of brutal killings.

1. Trial By Fire

The web series is based on the tragic Uphaar Cinema fire incident which happened in June 1997 in a posh South Delhi area. The story follows Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy (played by Rajshri Deshpande and Abhay Deol), whose two children die in the incident. The series focuses on how the parents fight for the justice of their kids for around twenty-four long years.
