Netflix India’s Top 10 Films & Series to Watch in the 4th July Week

For Netflix India’s top ten films list, the top-ranked title has been bagged by the period romantic action drama ‘Virata Parvam’ starring Sai Pallavi and Rana Daggubati. While Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Anek’ featuring Ayushmann Khurrana is on the second spot. And Anees Bazmee’s comedy horror movie ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ currently holds the third place.

On the Netflix top ten TV shows front, this week’s top spot has been bagged by the globally acclaimed supernatural series ‘Stranger Things’. While on the second and third spots are Imtiaz Ali’s crime drama ‘She’ followed by the sci-fi mystery show ‘Manifest’.

Here’s the full list of the top ten movies and TV shows on Netflix India this week:

TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK

10. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is somewhat based on Hussain Zaidi’s 2011 non-fiction crime novel ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ (a chapter). The movie follows the story of a woman named Ganga Harjivandas from Kathiawad who belongs to a wealthy family. But, after being sold to a brothel in Kamathipura, she eventually transforms into a formidable power to reckon with and becomes a madame in a red-light area.

9. Don

The campus comedy movie features Sivakarthikeyan in the role of a carefree engineering college student who comes from an ordinary middle-class family with a stern father. While figuring out his ambition in college, he must deal with another problem – the head of the college discipline committee Bhoominathan.

8. Spider-Man: No Way Home

It’s a direct sequel to Tom Holland’s solo Spider-Man movies namely ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’. The film’s underlying plot follows a botched-up magical spell by Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) while attempting to conceal Peter Parker’s secret identity as Spider-Man from the public. But Peter Parker must deal with the repercussions when the spell eventually results in various supervillains (Electro, Green Goblin, Sandman, The Lizard, and Doc Ock) from alternate realities somehow entering his universe.

7. Kuttavum Shikshayum

Directed by Rajeev Ravi, the film is apparently based on the real-life jewellery robbery that happened in Kerala a few years back. The police procedural story follows an investigation by a five-member police team from the Kerala Police led by Circle Inspector Sajan Philip (played by Asif Ali). After learning that the culprits belong to a remote North Indian village, the police team heads to Uttar Pradesh to solve the case.

6. The Man from Toronto

Directed by Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), the action-comedy film follows a case of mistaken identity between a deadly assassin (played by Woody Harrelson) and a down-on-luck New York man (reputedly played by Kevin Hart), while they happen to be at the same Airbnb rental.

5. CBI 5: The Brain

It’s the fifth movie of the CBI film series featuring veteran actor Mammootty in the lead role of CBI officer Sethurama Iyer. The movie’s plot focuses on how the super cop approaches a tough case of basket killings whose victims are several people like a cardiologist, a cop, a minister, etc. who are somehow connected with each other.

4. RRR (Hindi)

Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the blockbuster period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).

3. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Directed by Anees Bazmee, the comedy-horror flick is a standalone sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2007 film starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. The sequel features Kartik Aaryan as Ruhan, who meets a woman named Reet during a trip. Their chance encounter leads them to a haunted mansion in Rajasthan following which Ruhan poses as a psychic, leading to an interesting turn of events.

2. Anek

Anubhav Sinha’s socio-political action thriller film features Ayushmann Khurrana in the role of a government secret agent Joshua. He is sent to the turmoil-ridden region in the North-East with a mission to help in a peace accord between the government and the separatist groups headed by Tiger Sangha. For his undercover mission, he builds friendship with an aspiring boxer (Andrea Kevichüsa), who is the daughter of a separatist group member.

1. Virata Parvam

Directed by Venu Udugala, it’s a period romantic action drama set against the backdrop of the Naxal movement in the Telangana region in the 1990s period. The film’s plot follows a strong-willed woman named Vennela (Sai Pallavi), who sets out to find the writer of revolutionary poems and with whom she has fallen in love. The man is revealed to be commander of armed Naxal forces Comrade Ravana (Rana Daggubati) aka Aranya. Vennela’s valiant efforts to find Aranya and how her life changes after she meets him forms the rest of the film’s plot.

10. Squid Game

The show follows the story of 456 people, who have somewhat failed in their lives, and they are invited to participate in a dangerous survival game called ‘Squid Game’. The winner of the game will take home a huge amount.

9. All of Us Are Dead

Based on the webtoon ‘Now at Our School’, it’s a South Korean show where high school students are forced to fight a zombie outbreak in a battle for survival, in order to avoid becoming the infected creatures themselves. Killing or getting killed are the only two options left for them.

8. Money Heist

The show follows a hostage situation plotline masterminded by an enigmatic genius and his attempt to pull off a virtually impossible heist with the help of his skilled team.

7. Money Heist: Korea

Set in the Korean peninsula, the Korean remake/spinoff of the cult Spanish heist show ‘Money Heist’ ostensibly follows a similar hostage situation plotline masterminded by an enigmatic genius The Professor (Yoo Ji-tae) and his attempt to pull off a virtually impossible heist with the help of his skilled team.

6. Ghost Doctor

The South Korean fantasy comedy series follows the story of a first-year medical student who gets possessed by the ghost of a genius but arrogant surgeon, thereby making the newbie doctor an overnight sensation.

5. Man Vs Bee

Directed by David Kerr (Johnny English Strikes Again), the British comedy series features acclaimed performer Rowan Atkinson as Trevor, who gets into a battle with a seemingly innocent and harmless bee while house-sitting a luxurious mansion owned by Nina (Jing Lusi). Will he outwit the clever bee or end up doing more damage?

4. The Umbrella Academy

Based on the comic book series of the same name, the Emmy-nominated superhero show revolves around the daredevil adventures of a group of estranged superhero siblings. While dealing with their complex inter relationships, the superhero family team up to save the world.

3. Manifest

The mystery sci-fi series revolves around a group of passengers who somehow safely land after a turbulent flight. However, they soon learn that five years have already passed mysteriously in such a short time and the world has moved on after assuming that they were gone forever. They eventually realize that their second chance is meant for something greater.

2. She

The show’s plot revolves around a female police constable named Bhumika (played by Aaditi Pohankar), who is sent on an undercover mission to expose a drug cartel. Along the way and while dealing with her personal problems, the poor cop learns how her sexuality can be a game changer in her life.

1. Stranger Things

The latest season of the sci-fi horror series follows the aftereffects of the devastating Battle of Starcourt at the Hawkins town in Indiana. The show’s young protagonists are now living separately and trying to move on in their lives. At this juncture, a long-buried, supernatural threat that connects everything, emerges on Earth and the Upside Down. The fourth season’s first volume comprising seven episodes was released on 27th May while the second volume with two episodes came out on 1st July.
