Netflix’s upcoming sports comedy drama movie ‘Jaadugar’ is set to stream on the OTT platform from 15th July onwards. A lot is being said about the film including ‘Panchayat’ and ‘Kota Factory’ actor Jitendra Kumar’s presence as the lead actor, etc. But the Netflix film also features an immensely underrated actor. We are talking about the multi-talented actor-comedian-voice artist Jaaved Jaaferi (son of veteran comedian Jagdeep).
From the official trailer of Netflix’s ‘Jaadugar’, although the limelight is obviously on Jitendra Kumar’s character, it seems that Jaaved Jaaferi too has an important role to play in the upcoming film.
The 58-year-old actor had made his acting debut in Subhash Ghai’s 1985 film ‘Meri Jung’ (starring Anil Kapoor). Jaffrey went on to make brief yet meaningful appearances in films like Ketan Mehta’s ‘Oh Darling Yeh Hai India’, Deepa Mehta’s ‘Fire’, Siddharth Anand’s ‘Salaam Namaste’, Samar Khan’s ‘Shaurya’, Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’ and more recently in the comedy film ‘Bala’, ‘Sooryavanshi’, and comedy horror flick ‘Bhoot Police’.
However, despite acting in umpteen number of films and appearing in many advertisements, the multi-talented actor and undervalued dancer never got the recognition and content-oriented, meatier roles his talent deserved.
Now, with the advent of over-the-top streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, and Zee5 amongst others, these platforms will hopefully give a fighting chance to competent actors who either lost their former glory or did not get the right opportunities in the Indian television or film industry. And Jaaved Jaaferi is certainly one of them.
After the release of the Netflix film ‘Jaadugar’, we earnestly hope that Jaaved Jaaferi gets rid of the long standing ‘underrated actor’ tag, and he’ll be given many more chances to reinvent his acting career through various streaming platforms in India.
About the film
Directed by Sameer Saxena, the Netflix film ‘Jaadugar’ revolves around a small-time struggling magician named Magic Meenu (played by Jitendra Kumar), who lives in Neemuch town in MP. Despite no interest in sports, Meenu must now lead a down and out football team and win the coveted inter-colony football tournament – in order to marry his love interest (Arushi Sharma). The movie also features Jaaved Jaafery in an important role of a sports coach.
