Netflix is known to have a vast library filled with all kinds of crime stories and thrillers, be it fictional or the non fictional documentaries. Over the past few years, the documentary genre covering the crime series and famous incidents have garnered immense attention from the viewers. Now, to feed this love for such shows Netflix is coming up with a brand new series of crime documentaries, “Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel”. The docu-series will be released on the 10th of February and will be covering the history and myth of the infamous Hotel Cecil.
Hotel Death was a name given to the Cecil Hotel after sleuths of murders and suicides started taking place. There doesn’t seem to be a single year back in the later half of the 20th century that didn’t see a gruesome crime take place in that grizzly hotel. The hotel has also been the rest house for many murderers like the “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez. There are even records that “Black Dahlia” was in the vicinity of the hotel before her murder took place, which till date hasn’t been solved.
Apart from that, there have been all kinds of crimes that have taken place in the hotel, so much that people started asking workers whether there are rooms that didn’t see any crime. It was the disappearance of Elise Lam, a Canadian student that all of a sudden disappeared from the hotel, which sparked debates all over again. The last video of hers was made public which showed her near the elevator of the hotel. Her hand movements and gestures captured in the video, till this date haven’t been solved and nor her death. Nobody knows the answer to any kind of questions.
The documentary series will be covering the details of what went on during the time and death of Elise Lam. How her death became so viral on the internet that people from all over the world came to know about this place.
Emmy award winner Joe Berlinger, who earlier created the documentary on Ted Bundy, “The Ted Bundy Tapes” has directed the series. The hotel has been the inspiration behind the Season 5 of, “American Horror Story”. Apart from that, the hotel over the years have seen many crime reporters and also paranormal experts. This documentary will only be another addition to the list, but one of the few ones that has been done on a big scale to bring it to the audience.
Will the mystery of Cecil Hotel finally be somewhat solved? Will the disappearance of Elise Lam finally be explained? Only time will give the answer to these questions and many others.
