Academy award-winning Hollywood actor Will Smith had starred in David Ayer’s fantasy action film ‘Bright’ which started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform in December 2017. Just after the film’s release, a sequel was also announced for which the lead actors Will Smith and Joel Edgerton were expected to reprise their respective roles.
Things seemed to be moving forward and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ helmer Louis Leterrier was roped in to direct ‘Bright 2’. However, in a recent development, Bloomberg has reported through a Tweet post that Netflix has abandoned plans for the ‘Bright’ sequel.
The news has come not long after the infamous slapping incident at this year’s Oscar ceremony which involved Will Smith and Chris Rock. But interestingly, it has also been mentioned that the ‘Bright’ sequel cancellation is unrelated to the slapping incident.
Besides the ‘Bright’ sequel, another Will Smith project that has been affected is National Geographic’s nature show ‘Pole to Pole’ which features Will Smith visiting the North and the South Poles. The show’s further development has reportedly been delayed. Moreover, the Netflix action thriller movie ‘Fast and Loose’ starring Will Smith had also been put on hold earlier.
However, on the ‘brighter’ side for millions of his fans across the world, Will Smith will soon be seen in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Apple TV+ movie ‘Emancipation’. Will Smith has already completed the filming schedule for the movie. The action thriller film is said to be based on a true story of a slave named Gordon. It’s set during the American Civil War and Will Smith essays the role of a severely ill-treated slave named Peter, who escapes from a plantation and later joins the Union Army.
