Netflix is all set to adapt Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller book ‘All The Light We Cannot See’ into an epic four-part limited series. Academy award nominee Shawn Levy (‘Free Guy’, ‘Stranger Things’), who has been working on the project for a few years now will direct all four episodes with a story from Steven Knight (‘Peaky Blinders’).
As per Netflix, ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ tells the story of Marie-Laure, a teenager who is blind, and Werner, a German soldier, whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II.
Levy who is also producing the limited Netflix series via his 21 Laps Entertainment (‘Stranger Things’, ‘Free Guy’, ‘Shadow and Bone’, ‘Arrival’), along with other producers has announced a global casting call for the lead role of teenage “Marie-Laure”. Actresses who are blind or low vision are especially encouraged to apply. Those interested can apply by emailing [email protected].
‘All The Light We Cannot See’ was published in 2014 and soon gained global recognition with wide critical acclaim. In 2015 it went on to win the Pulitzer Prize and also the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction in the same year. The book has been on the New York Times best-selling list for more than 200 weeks and has sold more than 5.7 million copies in North America across print, e-book and audio formats and another 9.5 million copies worldwide.
The executive producers for ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ coming to Netflix are Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Josh Barry of 21 Laps Entertainment alongside Steven Knight. Joe Strechay (‘See’, ‘The OA’) will serve as Associate Producer, Blindness and Accessibility Consultant.
