Streaming giant Netflix has given the green light to a new crime thriller series from the makers of its blockbuster hit, “Fauda”. The series is titled “Diamonds”, and it is created by Yuval Yefet and Rotem Shamir, the duo behind popular shows such as “Fauda” and “Line in the Sand”.
“Diamonds” is a joint project between Netflix and Belgian public broadcaster Eén. It is set in the backdrop of the ultra-orthodox Jewish community in the Belgian city of Antwerp, widely considered the diamond industry capital of the world. “Diamonds” is being produced by Belgian production house De Mensen and Israeli production company Keshet International (KI). The shoot of the series has just kicked off in Belgium.
“Diamonds” is an eight-part crime thriller series, and centres on a Jewish Ultra-Orthodox family in Belgium’s Antwerp Diamond Square Mile. Belgian actor Kevin Janssens plays Noah Wolfson, the rebellious son of a powerful Jewish diamond businessman, who gives up his ultra-orthodox Jewish life, but returns to salvage the crumbling business of his family.
Once back in Antwerp, he discovers that his brother is engaged in shadowy business dealings with shady people, which has comprised his family’s once-powerful business. Noah gets enmeshed in a perilous world of crime in trying to save his family’s business and personal interests.
Besides Kevin Janssens, “Diamonds” features actors Dudu Fisher, Yona Elian, Mendy Cahan, Ini Massez, Robbie Cleiren, Jeroen Vander Ven, Marie Vinck and Els Dottermans, among others, in primary roles.
The series will be shot in Dutch, English and Yiddish, and will premiere on Netflix some time next year.
