Netflix has ordered a sequel season of the award winning Nordic noir ‘Trapped’. The new season is titled ‘Entrapped’ and comes from the internationally recognised and acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur. The production for ‘Entrapped’ has begun in the beautiful Icelandic backdrop and will launch on Netflix in 2021.
Starring Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (‘Trapped’, ‘Eurovision’), Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir (‘Trapped’) and Danish actor Thomas Bo Larsen (‘Festen’, ‘Follow the Money’), ‘Entrapped’ is similar to its previous season in the sense that, this time too it will be a character-driven crime drama.
The story of ‘Entrapped’ will take a leap of two years from where it ended in the second season where we will find “the police duo Andri (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and Hinrika (Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir), get drawn into a war in the remote highlands, where two rival groups fight over specific pieces of land, but for very different reasons.”
As per Netflix, “The neopagan and peaceful sect, ‘The Extended Family’, led by its founder and spiritual leader Oddur (Egill Ólafsson) has raised camp on the land, see the land as sacred and want to be close to their heathen Gods. A group of Icelandic bikers, led by an angry young man, Gunnar (Haraldur Stefánsson), also claim the ‘sacred site’.”
Netflix further adds, “In order to take ownership of the land, he (Gunnar) calls for backup and soon a group of Danish bikers arrive by ferry, led by the Danish leader, Hopper (Thomas Bo Larsen). The clash of the two groups leads to the death of a young man, Ivar (Auðunn Lúthersson). It turns out that Ivar was not unknown to Andri, so he feels obliged to join Hinrika in the North to investigate the murder case.”
Other than serving as the creative director, Baltasar Kormákur, who claims ‘Trapped’ to be the most successful TV series in Iceland’s history, will also executive produce Netflix’s ‘Entrapped’. Kormákur is also working on another Netflix Original series ‘Katla’. ‘Entrapped’ has been written by Clive Bradley, Rannveig Jónsdóttir, Davíð Már Stefánsson and Sigurjón Kjartansson.
The series is produced by RVK Studios (‘Jar City’, ‘The Deep’, ‘Virgin Mountain’ and ‘The Oath’) and co-produced by the Icelandic Broadcasting Service RÚV and ZDF from Germany. ‘Entrapped’ will premiere on Netflix in 2021.
