Netflix has announced its latest upcoming family drama series ‘The Waterfront’ written and executive produced by Kevin Williamson. Inspired by true events, ‘The Waterfront’ dives into the story of the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.
In addition to writing the horror classics Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Faculty, Williamson also created the beloved teen-drama series Dawson’s Creek and co-created The Vampire Diaries.
Other than ‘The Waterfront’, Netflix has also ordered a new drama series starring Tim McGraw who plays the role of a megastar champion in it. He faces a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider whose very existence challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past.
Set in the fierce, competitive world of bull riding the series is created, showrun and executive produced by Brandon Camp (‘Love & Gelato’).
Netflix also announced some other new series including witty comedies like ‘Golf’, starring Will Ferrell in his first TV comedy as a fictional golf legend and executive produced by Ramy Youseff and Rian Johnson, and ‘Running Point’ starring Kate Hudson and executive produced by Mindy Kaling.
‘Running Point’ is a 10 episode basketball comedy from Mindy Kaling set to debut in 2025 and follows a woman named Isla Gordon (Hudson) who is unexpectedly appointed head of the family business — which happens to be one of the most famous professional basketball franchises in the country.
Also joining Hudson in the comedy are Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarver as Isla’s brothers, Max Greenfield as her fiancé, Brenda Song as a high-level team staffer, and more.
On the sports front, Netflix highlighted multiple new shows, including a new documentary series following the story of Jerry Jones and the 1990s Dallas Cowboys. The upcoming documentary series by the Emmy-winning directors of Wild Wild Country and Untold will tell the story of how “America’s Team” established a legacy. It features interviews with the architects of the Cowboys’ success, including the owner, president, and general manager, Jerry Jones, who purchased the team in 1989. Among the doc’s other commentators are players who became household names in the ’90s — Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders — as well as head coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer, and notable fans like President George W. Bush and Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
There are also three other series in partnership with the International Olympic Committee: Simone Biles: Rising which will follow the comeback of the greatest gymnast ever, a show spotlighting men’s basketball teams from around the world as they compete for medals, and Sprint, tracking the 100-meter sprinters.
