Legendary Hollywood actor Robert De Niro, whose last on-screen appearance was in David O. Russell’s comedy drama film ‘Amsterdam’, has now reportedly been roped in to star in a Netflix series titled ‘Zero Day’. The political thriller limited series is currently being developed at the streaming service.
Although the precise plot details for the Netflix series ‘Zero Day’ are presently not known, Oscar winning actor Robert De Niro will essay the role of a former US president.
‘Zero Day’ is being executive produced by ‘Narcos’ showrunner Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, high profile Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Michael Schmidt, Jonathan Glockman (Rush Hour EP), alongside Robert De Niro himself.
In case the series officially moves forward at Netflix, it would turn out to be Robert De Niro’s first regular television series role. And ‘Zero Day’ would not be the first time Robert De Niro will star in a Netflix project. Previously, the veteran performer featured in Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed biographical crime drama film ‘The Irishman’ alongside his ‘Godfather Part II’ co-star Al Pacino.
With Robert De Niro’s casting in ‘Zero Day’, Netflix seems to have hit yet another bullseye. The New York born, 79-year-old actor’s prolific cinematic career has been blessed with some outstanding films and performances, which have now achieved a cult status.
After starring as the young Vito Corleone in ‘Godfather Part II’, Robert De Niro featured as the lead in Scorsese’s dark, psychological drama ‘Taxi Driver’, Vietnam war based ‘The Deer Hunter’, brutal boxing drama ‘Raging Bull’, Sergio Leone’s crime flick ‘Once Upon a Time in America’, psychological thriller ‘Cape Fear’, road action comedy ‘Midnight Run’, Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’, comedy drama ‘Meet the Parents’, and David O. Russell’s rom-com ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, to name a few.
