Netflix’s first live boxing match, featuring a highly anticipated fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, has been rescheduled. The match was initially delayed because Tyson had some medical issues with his ulcer, but it is now set for Friday, November 15. The fight will still take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will include an extra undercard match between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.
Netflix is making live events a key part of its strategy. In addition to the boxing match, the streaming service has also secured the rights to broadcast two NFL games on Christmas Day, paying around $75 million for each game. Given that Netflix is very new to live sports, it is a big investment. All of us have seen how Netflix massacred a few of its live streaming but they are getting better at it.
According to Doug Anmuth, an analyst at JPMorgan, the boxing match could become the “most watched boxing match ever” due to Netflix’s large global audience and the easy access to the event through the streaming platform. If the event is successful, Netflix will naturally invest in many such events.
Let’s see what happens in the match between Tyson and Paul. However, we will be more interested in the aftermath of the sporting event.
