Streaming giant Netflix has just unveiled the first trailer for its new Korean drama series, ‘Like Flowers In Sand’. The series premieres on Netflix worldwide on 20th December, 2023.
The romantic drama series ‘Like Flowers In Sand’ is the next in Netflix’s long line of compelling content from South Korea. The series centres on a bunch of young people in the city of Geosan in South Korea, and is set in the backdrop of the sport of ssireum. For those who don’t know, Ssireum is a Korean folk wrestling style, and is the traditional national sport of Korea.
The series follows Kim Bae Doo, the youngest son of a prestigious ssireum family, who’s gifted with prodigious talent for the sport. However, a crisis compels him to retire from ssireum. The return of his childhood friend Oh Yoo Kyung, who becomes the leader of the ssireum team, turns his life around, making him cancel his retirement plan.
The official synopsis of ‘Like Flowers In Sand’ reads – “A wrestling prodigy is in crisis when an old friend reenters his life to give him the push he needs”. The series is directed by Kim Jin Woo, and written by Won Yoo Jung.
Jang Dong-yoon (Daily Dose Of Sunshine) plays the lead role of Kim Baek Doo in ‘Like Flowers In Sand’. Lee Ju-myoung (Twenty-Five Twenty-One) plays Oh Yoo Kyung in the series. Yoon Jong-seok, Kim Bo-ra, Lee Jae-joon, and Lee Joo-seung form the rest of the cast.
The sixteen-episode series will stream on Netflix in the format of two episodes per week, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting from 20th December, 2023.
