Netflix Reveals 5 New Unscripted Japanese Series and Films

Netflix has released several foreign language shows and movies this year. Even yesterday they unveiled the release date of the Spanish series “Welcome to Paradise”. And now Netflix has decided to add five more Japanese unscripted shows into their streaming service. The titles of the shows include “Love Village”, “Lisa Another Great Day”, “Sing, Dance, Act: Kabuki”, “Tokyo Crime Squad: The Lucie Blackman” and a Japanese version of “Love is Blind”. Netflix also announced they have plans to release seven Japanese shows in this year.

Netflix had also entered into the world of Anime for quite some years which helped gain viewers from Japan, and now this move from Netflix will also gain some subscribers for them. Love Village will be a reality dating series similar to the Japanese version of “Love is Blind”.

The most exciting show will be the documentary about J-Pop star Lisa named “Lisa Another Great Day”. This documentary will be talking about the life of the J-Pop star. “Sing, Dance, Act: Kabuki” will feature another celebrity and actor Toma Ikuta and the show talks about his path to Japanese Kabuki theatre. And“Tokyo Crime Squad: The Lucie Blackman” a documentary of an investigation of a murder.

According The Hollywood Reporter, Mitsuko Koyabashi and Taro Goto Netflix’s managers of live action creative in Japan said in a joined statement “Japan’s love affair with unscripted content goes back to the 1950s and remains one of the country’s most dominant forms of entertainment, From comedy shows to competition shows, Japan’s lean-back variety programs offer the sort of comforting entertainment people have come to expect from television, while reality shows tap into a great enthusiasm for living vicariously through the real-world adventures of on-screen personalities.”

Netflix with the unscripted shows like Ainori and Terrace House had created their fortune in this genre. And they are ready for another round with upcoming titles on Netflix. Fans are eagerly waiting for the shows to land.
