The streaming giant, Netflix is gearing up to focus heavily on the comedy and stand-up comic acts in India. It has set in motion not one or two, but eight such comedy specials which will focus on a wide variety of issues.
Leading comic acts like Veer Das, Kenny Sebastian, Kannan Gill, Amit Tandon, Prasanthi Singh, Niveditha Prakasham, Kaneez Surka, and Supriya Joshi, have been brought on board. The content that is being targeted is based on Indian sensibilities, surroundings, its people and their political views etc. The whole thing will come out in multiple formats and languages.
The comic acts are a regular feature for Netflix in the US. However, they have been slow in this aspect when it comes to India. Netflix has previously worked with Vir Das and Aditi Mittal for comedy specials. Apart from that, they had Comedians Of The World featuring two additional artists.
There is a hugely popular show on Netflix’s competitive platform already. Maybe that has made Netflix get into higher gear regarding comedy, now. At the end of the day, it will result in exciting content for the audience.
