Netflix has shut down its gaming studio even before its first release and it hints at the company’s stepping back from big format games.
The name of the studio is AAA gaming studio, Team Blue. There were several celebrities from the industry who had joined the studio in the past years and were planning to come up with something big. It was reportedly working on some multiplatform AAA game and some big names were involved. Overwatch’s former executive producer Chacko Sonny, Halo’s Joseph Staten, the art director of God Of War Rafael Grassett were there.
Sonny was invited to lead the company when it was created, but all three of them have reportedly left the studio.
Netflix still gives a huge number of mobile games’ access to subscribers and also to popular titles like Grand Theft Auto. But still shutting down its own company seems to be a very big business loss. The platform might want to focus on the entertainment industry only, but if it could branch out with AAA, there might have been huge profit in it.
The platform will now only deal with mobile games, and acquired existing studios like Night School Studio, which can go on to be a very good opportunity as well.
