Ukraine’s Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko made the announcement to the media in this regard. He also expressed his happiness at the prospect of Netflix making the overture of shooting a movie in Kyiv. He had met with the star of the movie, Jean-Claude Van Damme this summer, as talks with Netflix were underway.
Parts of The Last Mercenary will be shot in Paris, and the rest of it will be shot in Kyiv itself. Van Damme will play a former secret service agent who gets embroiled in a political mystery. It will be directed by French filmmaker David Charhon, and jointly produced by international production house, Apple Tree, and Vlad Riashyn, founder of Russian-Ukrainian movie production company Star Media.
Van Damme informed the media that The Last Mercenary is “A beautiful story with emotion, a lot of action and a lot of humor.”
