Last year was a landmark in the entertainment industry as Hollywood was forced to stop by boycotts from writers, actors and more. The exploitative policies finally stopped and the issue was resolved. Thankfully, it gave a sort of inspiration to other film industries of the world and the fire has reached Italy too.
A major legal battle is brewing between Italian artists and Netflix. Artisti 7607, a collective representing thousands of local acting and dubbing talents, has filed a lawsuit against Netflix in a Rome court.
But why are they doing it?
To secure what they deem as fair compensation owed to their artists under the law.
For years, there’s been a disagreement between Artisti 7607 and Netflix. Artisti 7607 says Netflix isn’t paying their actors fairly for their work. They’ve tried talking it out but feel they have to go to court because Netflix isn’t following the laws about artists’ rights.
The main issue is about leftover rights and getting information about who’s watching. Artisti 7607 says Netflix isn’t giving them the important info they need to figure out how much their actors should get paid. Netflix says they’ve given all the info they’re supposed to and have tried to make a deal. One party is clearly playing dirty over here. But now, they’re going to court to settle things.
We will keep you posted on the updates.
