International Women’s Day is almost here and to mark the occasion Netflix has taken a step to celebrate the women in the film industry. Recently, the streaming service announced a Creative Equity Fund, which will be used to fund filmmakers from diverse backgrounds to help bring their work forward and give them a platform to rise. This is the Creative Equity Fund, which they will be using once again to help and give women filmmakers and other women in the entertainment industry a chance to better their craft and a platform to showcase them as well.
Netflix Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria, in her blog recently announced that Netflix will be dedicating $5 Million globally, that can help nurture and uplift women in the entertainment industry. Earlier, the streaming giant decided to dedicate $20 Million annually to organisations for makers and workers in the entertainment industry that are underrepresented and will help them in training and also provide job placement to help them grow.
Netflix has been, over the years evolved as the leading streaming giant. Such steps from the streaming service will help women and people from underrepresented diverse backgrounds to come forward and evolve and work with the renowned faces of the industry. This will give them not only a chance to present their work but also help them learn and grow together.
The recent win by Chloe Zhao in the Golden Globes Award has given a lot of women a hope and newfound ray to work and bring their content forward. Chloe Zhao won the Golden Globe for the Best Director for her path breaking movie, “Nomadland”. Chloe Zhao is the second woman and became the first Asian to win an award in this category. The director, though not related to Netflix, brings forward an example that women are given the chance and opportunity; they can create magic on the screen as well.
