The Oscar Awards 2024 held this morning proved to be lucky for both Netflix and auteur Wes Anderson. The super talented filmmaker, who had never won an Academy Award in his illustrious career, won his first Oscar Award this morning for his inventive Netflix film, ‘The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar’. Wes Anderson won the Oscar for Best Live-Action Short Film, making both him and Netflix super happy.
In celebration of the Oscar win for Benedict Cumberbatch starrer, ‘The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar’, Netflix has planned an interesting tweak to the four Wes Anderson short films that premiered in a space of two weeks last year on Netflix. Netflix has decided to re-release all four films, but as an anthology this time. Until now, the four Wes Anderson films were streaming on Netflix in the format of four standalone short films.
The purpose of re-releasing the four Wes Anderson films as an anthology is simple – to give a wider reach, watchability and awareness to all four films. Until now, only The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar is known to most people, even Netflix’s own subscribers.
After The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar’s wonderful Oscar win, it’s quite obvious that film lovers will go looking for the Wes Anderson film so that they can watch it on Netflix. Re-releasing the short films as an anthology will garner more eyeballs for the other three lesser known short films too.
The films are a series of shorts, adapted from Roald Dahl’s well-loved stories. Directed by Wes Anderson, the four films are ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’, ‘The Swan’, ‘The Ratcatcher’, and ‘Poison’. Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley and Richard Ayoade make up the primary cast of the films.
