Netflix has ordered an anime series, based on the acclaimed Japanese manga ‘Pluto’. Genco will produce the series and M2Studio will handle the animation.
Based on Tezuka’s Astro Boy “The Greatest Robot on Earth” arc (1964), the Pluto manga is nothing short of a chef-d’oeuvre. The duo of Naoki Urasawa and his long-time partner, Takashi Nagasaki, is known to create the critically acclaimed manga. As for the anime’s voice cast, we have Shinshu Fuji as Gesicht, Minori Suzuki as Uran, and Yoko Hikasa as Atom.
‘Pluto’ has been listed as an exclusive Netflix entry on Shogakukan’s official website. More details about the upcoming anime series will surface later. According to a recent tweet from the streaming service, the show may come out this year. However, the platform deleted the tweet shortly after posting it.
Set in a perfect neo-futuristic world where humans and highly advanced robots live in complete harmony, ‘Pluto’ revolves around robot detective Gesicht. Interpol gives him his strangest and most complex case ever. He has to find out the culprit responsible for destroying the Swiss robot Mont Blanc and the murderer of a key figure from a prominent robot rights group. As Gesicht moves forward with the case, he discovers that he is also on the murderer’s target list because of being one of the greatest robots in the world.
Author Naoki Urasawa expressed his excitement about the upcoming anime show recently, “I applaud the courage of everyone that has taken on the challenge of making an anime based on Pluto. I am excited about the birth of this new series to win over people’s hearts. I hope that now more than ever, Osamu Tezuka’s message reaches the world,” he said.
Netflix is yet to reveal the release window of Pluto. Stay tuned for more updates.
