All OTT enthusiasts must already be aware that streaming giant Netflix houses a country-wise list of the top ten movies and series titles on a dedicated website. Usually, it might be assumed by many that all the titles which make it to the top ten lists are worth watching. But that isn’t always the case.
An Australian psychological thriller movie featuring ‘Succession’ star Sarah Snook started streaming on Netflix a couple weeks back. Later, the film also bagged the No.1 spot on the Netflix top ten movies list in the US. As of now, it currently holds the second spot on the Netflix US top ten list (for the 26th June – 2nd July week). The movie’s name is ‘Run Rabbit Run’.
The basic plot of ‘Run Rabbit Run’ follows a fertility doctor, who begins to observe unusual behavior in her daughter after the latter claims to remember instances from her past life.
But Netflix users have been warning each about not watching and avoiding the film ‘Run Rabbit Run’ altogether on the streaming service. And it seems to be supported by a valid reason. Some of them have even called the film a waste of time while some others think that an actor like Sarah Snook has been wasted in an average film. The movie has received ‘Rotten’ status and a poor critics’ score of just 36% on reviews aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, on IMDb, the film has got a below average user rating of 5/10. Having said that, there are some people who disagree with the film’s negative feedback and think that it’s a great horror movie.
Despite the insipid feedback, ‘Run Rabbit Run’ has made it to the top ten Netflix lists in 27 countries including Italy, where it’s on the No.1 spot. However, it is currently not available for streaming on Netflix India though.
So, in a way, ‘Run Rabbit Run’ has turned out to be a classic example of a film’s popularity on Netflix not being commensurate with the film’s quality. So, the Netflix top ten lists should not be always taken as a fool proof measure by audiences for ascertaining how good a movie or show is. One should not blindly follow the top ten Netflix list as a recommendation tool. It’s better to check the reviews before spending your time watching it.
