The first look images of Netflix’s upcoming World War ll movie ‘Operation Mincemeat’ is here giving those perfect vintage vibes. Helmed by John Madden (‘Shakespeare in Love’, ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’), ‘Operation Mincemeat’ will be coming soon to Netflix that acquired the North American and Latin American rights for the film.
With a script from Michelle Ashford, ‘Operation Mincemeat’ stars Academy Award winner Colin Firth (‘The King’s Speech’, ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’), Mathew Macfayden (‘Succession’, ‘Pride & Prejudice’), Kelly Macdonald (‘No Country For Old Men’, ‘Trainspotting’), Penelope Wilton (‘Downtown Abbey’), Johnny Flynn (‘Stardust’) and Jason Isaacs (‘The Patriot’, ‘Harry Potter’) among others.
The film is based on Ben Macintyre’s book on the eponymous deception mission that was carried out during second World War. Set in 1943, ‘Operation Mincemeat’ will tell the true story of two British intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Macfadyen) who came up with an absurd plan to disguise the Allied invasion of Sicily by planting false documents on a dead body and faking it as a fictional captain of the army. The plan was a success and Germans were made to believe that the main target of Allied forces was going to be Greece leading them to divert forces there. This helped the Allies to easily attack and take over Sicily.
Releasing the first images form the film Netflix wrote, “Two British officers try to turn the tide of World War II by recruiting an unlikely agent: a dead man.
