Earlier today, streaming giant Netflix revealed the trailer for its upcoming Indonesian comedy-drama film titled ‘Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens’. Directed by Lucky Kuswandi, the film ostensibly revolves around the titular character of Ali, who decides to travel to New York to track his mother, who had left him many years ago. Upon reaching the most populous city of the United States, he experiences love from the most unexpected places and people.
The heart-warming trailer starts off with a young Ali being promised by his mother to be brought to New York once her life is settled over there. He grows up but never gets the call. After a revelation, one day he decides to go to New York to meet his mother. On reaching there, he connects with some people, who apparently try to help him find his mother. And eventually, Ali finds his mother. But is there a catch? Guess we will find about it only after watching the film.
From the film’s trailer and the official synopsis, it seems that ‘Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens’ is one of those of universally relatable films that will certainly melt your heart with their soul-stirring plot, backed by endearing performances.
The film’s trailer revived our memories to reminisce about another heart-rending film that instantly struck the right chords with the audiences globally. The film was the biographical drama titled ‘Lion’ helmed by Garth Davis and featuring ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor Dev Patel in the lead role.
‘Lion’ narrated the incredible true story of a five-year-old Indian boy, belonging to a poor family, who accidentally gets lost in a far-off, alien city to be eventually adopted by a loving Australian couple. After he grows up, with the help of Google Earth technology, how he makes it his mission to find his original family (biological mother) in India, forms the rest of the story.
Besides Dev Patel, ‘Lion’ also featured eminent actors like Nicole Kidman, Nawazuddin Siddique, Deepti Naval, amongst others. The film was a critical and commercial success, received multiple Academy Award nominations in various categories and eventually won Dev Patel a BAFTA Award for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category, besides getting the ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ award.
Owing to the thematic similarities of both these films ‘Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens’ and ‘Lion’, it seems that viewers of profound films and meaningful cinema will be in for an emotional roller coaster ride when the upcoming film ‘Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens’ would globally start streaming on Netflix from June 17, 2021, onwards.
