Netflix’s Arcane Season 2 Release Window May Kill All Its Hype

By Binged Bureau - Nov 20, 2023 @ 08:11 pm

The cliffhanger ending of Arcane Season 1 made Season 2’s arrival inevitable. However, Netflix’s strategy for releasing the second season may end up killing all the hype for the hit animated series. The first season opened up with spectacular responses from both viewers and critics. In fact, the series is one of the rare projects that are still 100% ‘fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 1 came out in November 2021. And we have to wait for one more year to get our hands on the sophomore entry.

Arcane turned out to be a gigantic hit upon its release on Netflix. It was immediately hailed as one of the best video game adaptations and soon broke numerous streaming records. In addition, it became the first-ever streaming animated series to bag an Emmy last year.

Netflix shut the mouths of those individuals through Arcane who used to criticise the streaming service for its inability to properly adapt video games. However, we also know that the platform does not give significant attention to animated projects. And God knows how many times it has cancelled critically-hit shows due to low hype or viewership. This is why the 3-year gap between the releases of Season 1 and 2 can create some serious issues for Arcane’s team. A gap this long between the consequent seasons often ends up killing all the hype or excitement associated with a show. In the case of Arcane, long release gaps could lead the hit show towards its cancellation. And we all know that Netflix does not hesitate in cancelling hit projects.

So, should Netflix release Arcane’s seasons every year? Well, we don’t think it will happen. Many reasons contributed towards the global success of Season 1. But the thing that made the show an instant hit was its high-quality detailed animation, which made every scene lively and thrilling. And achieving this outstanding quality of animation is not easy. It is a time-consuming procedure. This is why the duo of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller is taking such a long time to drop ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ in theatres. The same reason can explain Robert Kirkman’s decision to release Invincible Season 2 on Prime Video after a huge gap of nearly 2.5 years. It will be interesting to see how Netflix maintains Arcane’s hype till November 2024.

Arcane Season 2 is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in November 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
