Netflix’s popular show ‘Warrior Nun’, which the streaming giant canceled back in December 2022, is set to make a spectacular return – in the form of a trilogy of films. The news was revealed late on Tuesday night (this morning, India time) by executive producer Dean English.
Dean English did not share any further information about the timeline of production or release, or whether the films will release in theatres or premiere on a streaming platform. There’s also no information on the cast and crew of the Warrior Nun film trilogy, mainly due to the twin strikes ongoing in Hollywood.
One thing is confirmed, though. Netflix is nowhere in the picture regarding anything about Warrior Nun, from production to release. So it’s obvious that the Warrior Nun movies will not premiere on Netflix by any chance.
For those who don’t know, Warrior Nun premiered on Netflix worldwide in 2020. The show was a hit, and Netflix renewed it for a second season. Warrior Nun Season 2 premiered on Netflix in November 2022, and the new season was again one of the most popular ones on Netflix. Strangely enough, despite its obvious popularity, Netflix cancelled Warrior Nun after two seasons. The cancellation led to a wave of protests from fans of the show, who launched a sustained campaign, demanding resurrection of Warrior Nun on Netflix.
The streaming giant did not heed fans’ demands and wishes. But someone else did, and we’ll soon know more about it. Warrior Nun rights holders Perfect Circle Productions and Productivity Media haven’t revealed any more information on the Warrior Nun film trilogy.
Warrior Nun is adapted from the comic book ‘Warrior Nun Areala’, written by Ben Dunn. The show centres on Ava, a young woman who’s resurrected after death by a divine artifact implanted in her back, and becomes a part of the Order of the Cruciform Sword, an ancient order that fights demons on earth.
Alba Baptista plays Ava in the series. The rest of the cast of Warrior Nun includes Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Tristán Ulloa, Olivia Declán, Thekla Reuten, Sylvia De Fanti and William Miller, among others.
