Move over, Amazon Prime Video‘s Comicstaan, for Netflix’s “Comedy Premium League” is here! The streaming giant has just announced the Comedy Premium League release date, and 20th August it is!! In just about twenty days time, Netflix subscribers will be able to watch the best comics in India do their thing, from the comfort of their homes.
And when we say the “best comics in India”, we mean the best comics in India. The Comedy Premium League lineup is simply crazy! It’s the who’s who of the Indian comedy world, in one single show. These are the top-notch comics slated to appear on the Comedy Premium League on Netflix – Aadar Malik, Aakash Gupta, Amit Tandon, Kaneez Surka, Kenny Sebastian, Mallika Dua, Prashasti Singh, Rahul Dua, Rahul Subramanian, Rohan Joshi, Rytasha Rathore, Samay Raina, Sumaira Shaikh, Sumukhi Suresh, Tanmay Bhat and Urooj Ashfaq.
That’s a total of sixteen comics on stage as contestants, slogging it out to reach the final rounds of the league. They will explore multiple formats of comedy, including improv, skit, stand-up, punchlines, presentation comedy, and of course, the iconic roast! For the first time, sixteen experienced comics will come together, divided into four groups as they go head to head in this no holds barred battle of wits and words. Spread across six episodes, the competition will intensify with each round and only the wittiest team will survive!
The Comedy Premium League will be hosted by Prajakta Koli, while Abish Mathew is the showrunner. There’ll also be a special appearance by Anurag Kashyap in one of the episodes.
The “Comedy Premium League” was part of the big fat list of 41 upcoming shows and movies for 2021 that Netflix had announced back in March. Netflix has produced the show in conjuction with Only Much Louder (OML), an entity at the forefront of creating comedy-centric content for streaming platforms.
