Netflix is coming with rock-solid concepts one after the other and especially for the Asian market. Be it Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, or something else, Netflix is totally on its game with solid gems. Now, as we all know Netflix has become the go-to place for everyone yearning to watch good solid K-dramas, the streaming platform has continuously added classics, latest ones, odd ones, underrated ones into its library. Keeping this in mind, Netflix is here once again bringing yet another amazingly constructed Korean series to woo fans all once again.
Netflix dropped the trailer of its upcoming Korean series “D.P.”, the abbreviation of the term “Deserter Pursuit”, which also is like the second name of the series. The series marks the comeback of actor Jung Hae-in in a Netflix series. Jung Hae-in in the past starred in Netflix series like “Something In The Rain”, “One Spring Night” and the Netflix movie “Tune In For Love”. In D.P. he will star alongside actor Koo Kyo-hwan, who earlier has been part of Netflix’s hit Korean thriller “Kingdom”. The series has been written by Han Jun-hee and Kim Bo-tong who also is the writer for the webtoon, which it is based on.
Now, coming to the story, Jung Hae-in essays the role of military men in the rank “Private”, named Ahn Joon-ho. He is tormented in the military and one fine day, he just decides to escape. But escape wasn’t written on his part as he was assigned to the D.P. unit, which is responsible for bringing in soldiers that leave their military enlistment midway and run away. Joon-ho now has to dress up as a civilian and assist Corporal Han Ho-yul in getting the deserters back to their families and military safely.
Even though it might sound simple, it is nowhere near that. As days go by and Joon-ho gets more into his jobs and sees the reasons why there are deserters in the first place, he is forced to think that what if the “drafting into military” wasn’t there at all. That would mean there would be no deserters and the South Korean military would only have those, who were actually interested in being in the military. The show is an action-filled black comedy piece, but despite all this, it will force you to think about the countries and the people who still have to undergo necessary military enlistment.
As for the series, D.P. is set to stream on Netflix from the 27th of August, which again makes the last week of August exciting for K-drama fans, as Netflix has “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha”, scheduled to release simultaneously.
