Netflix’s ‘Decoupled’ is one of the most anticipated shows from the Indian Original slate it had announced in March this year. And now it is all set to hit our screens at the fag end of the year. The streamer has just dropped the first teaser and a release date for the romantic comedy drama. ‘Decoupled’ will premiere on 17th December 2021 on Netflix.
The first, longish teaser for ‘Decoupled’ shows the lead protagonists, R. Madhavan’s Arya and Surveen Chawla’s Shruti, engaged in constant banter – not the good kind of banter, though. The upwardly-mobile Gurgaon couple has fallen out of love after eight years of togetherness, but are ready to slog it out for the sake of their daughter. But not without shooting chucklesome, toe-tickling sarcastic barbs at each other every opportunity they get. That itself is the USP of the show – it shows the sad reality of a couple drifting apart, but with hefty doses of humour thrown into the mix.
The latter is quite obvious, given that ‘Decoupled’ is written and created by Manu Joseph (Serious Men), he of the sharp humour and biting satire. The show is directed by Hardik Mehta, who had earlier directed the seminal film, ‘Kamyaab’.
‘Decoupled’ is special for several reasons. For one, it marks the return to OTT of R. Madhavan after his successful show, ‘Breathe’. It also brings Surveen Chawla back into the Netflix fold, after her terrific turn in Netflix’s blockbuster ‘Sacred Games’.
‘Decoupled‘ is produced by Bombay Fables and Andolan Films. The show releases exclusively on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
